Lessons Learned from Years with Animals

Why You Should Train Your Dog

Dogs are different from people. Dogs have special needs and they communicate or behave differently compared to people. So the moment you bring a dog home, you cannot expect them to fit in and adjust to a lifestyle that they are not yet accustomed to. You will have to accommodate their needs and make sure to teach them what they ought to learn. Training your dog does not only benefit him or her. It can be beneficial to you, too.

Dog training is one way to ensure that you will have a wonderful relationship with your dog. Through training, you can teach your dog good manners and help him or her become civilized. Through training, you can let your dog learn a number of tasks and/or activities by using different cues and commands. Dogs generally learn through interaction and with the use of different training methods. If you decide to train your dog, they can learn how to be polite and this can turn into lifelong habits.

You can teach dogs a variety of things. Most pet owners, however, decide to go through house training first. Usually, the first few weeks of owning a dog can be very challenging. House training is one way of keeping your dog on the right track from the moment you bring him or her home. If your dog is between the age of 12 and 16 weeks, you can go through house training immediately. It is at this age that dogs can already control their bladder and bowel movements. To house train your puppy, you will have to establish a routine. Let them get used to a regular schedule. This way, they will learn that there are specific times for eating, playing and relieving themselves. If you want your dog to learn to eliminate outdoors, there should be a specific spot for him or her to go to. If your dog does it correctly, make sure to praise him or her. If you cannot spend as much with your dog to supervise him or her, you can also try crate training. Dog crates serve as your dog’s personal space. Because they do not usually want to soil in their crates, it is a good choice of equipment for house training. However, proper procedures must be taken when crate training dogs so as not to make them feel trapped and/or frustrated when inside their crates.

Dog training can be a long, tedious process. It will take time for you to educate yourself about dog training. Because of this, taking your dog to training classes may be preferable. You can find a suitable instructor for your dog to ensure that his or her needs are being met while you are not around. Dogs that range from 9 to 16 weeks can already start attending these classes. Finding a suitable training course for your dog is one of your duties as a responsible pet owner.
